You can change your life’s course on any given day. Sometimes we need a jumpstart by using a milestone (a birthday or new year) or a marker (a day of the week, first of the month) as motivation. Any one of these can be the catalyst. Any day can be the day you muster up the drive to make changes with a sense of strong motivation and determination. Reflect on the past year and write or remark on experiences or events that you recall. It might be a conversation in which you wish you had or had not said something to another. It may be a relationship that has changed in its nature and is not as satisfying as it used to be. It may be personal goals that you have postponed for various reasons. It may be denial, anxiety, fear or overwhelming feelings which have prevented you from making the changes you know you must make in order to have a more fulfilling life. Make a conscious assessment of your life and explore the areas that need to change.
Embracing the courage that is needed to create new ways of thinking, being, behaving, interacting, and responding can help to improve your life and relationships. Have you spent enough time doing things to meet your needs? Have you spent enough time with those you love? Are you a good listener? Do you listen with your heart? Are you compassionate with yourself and with others? Are you able to control your temper and modulate other feelings? Are you rigid or flexible? Take the time to do a self-evaluation. If it’s hard to get perspective in this solitary endeavor, talk to someone. It might be a friend, family member or a professional therapist. Don’t wait any longer. Take action. Do it now.
